Corrosion

All metal surfaces are affected by corrosion. Depending on the physical properties of the metal and the environment to which it is exposed, chemical or Electro mechnical corrosion may occur. In order to protect the metal from prolonged outdoor exposure, SAN Engineering provides 2 types of Finishing standards:

Hot Dip Galvanizing

Hot Dip Galvanized after Fabrication of Cable Support Systems products are fabricated from steel and then completely immersed in a bath of molten zinc. A metallic bond occurs resulting in a zinc coating that completely coats all surfaces, including edges and welds. Another advantage of this method is coating thickness. Hot Dip Galvanized After Fabrication (HDGAF) have a minimum thickness in accordance to ASTM A123 and BS 1461 (updated standard of BS 729). The zinc thickness is controlled by several factors 2 of which are the amount of time each part is immersed in the molten zinc bath, as well as, the speed of dipping and removal. The layer of zinc which bonds to steel provides a dual protection against corrosion. It protects first as an overall barrier coating. If this coating happens to be scratched or gouged, zinc’s secondary defense is called upon to protect the steel by galvanic action. Hot Dip Galvanized after Fabrication is recommended for prolonged outdoor exposure and will protect steel for many years in most outdoor environments and in many aggressive industrial environments.

EPOXY Coating

An epoxy coating is a coating compound consisting of two distinct elements: an epoxy resin and a polyamine hardener (also known as a catalyst). When mixed, the resin and hardener engage in a chemical reaction that creates cross-linking of the elements as it cures. When the epoxy coating is fully cured, the resulting product is a durable, rigid plastic coating with numerous desirable mechanical properties. Epoxy coatings are renowned for their outstanding mechanical properties, such as hardness and durability, and abrasion, impact and chemical resistance. These attributes make epoxy coatings an ideal protective coating material for components in demanding industrial settings.
